West Virginia is west of Virginia and Washington, D.C. and east of the states of Ohio and Kentucky. It is bounded on the north by Pennsylvania and Maryland and on the south by Virginia and Kentucky
The town of Beverly lies to the north and east of the center of West Virginia, along the main chain of the Appalachian Mountains. (This part of that mountain chain is also referred to as the Allegheny Mountains.) Beverly is in the valley of the Tygarts Valley River, along what is now US Route 219.
