Beverly Heritage Day 2025 – Building Home in the Valley

1775 sparked Revolution throughout the colonies. What did that mean for the Tygart Valley frontier?
Come Join us in Building Beverly as the frontier becomes part of the new nation.
Join us for Beverly Heritage Day, our signature event! All day, experience fun and learning for the whole family, with music, crafts, and presentations.
A tasty homemade lunch is available for purchase, and our pie and cake sale raises money for the programs we bring to you in the summer and the rest of the year!

Building Beverly Pass – Discover Beverly Buildings and Characters
Pick up your pass card to get stamped at sites you visit. Each stamp features a custom design hand-carved by local artist Michelle Fonda. Pass sites are marked by stars on map, on the schedule above and below, and at the site. The full list of sites with stamps is on the pass card. Build your house stamp by stamp, then bring it back to the Heritage Center for a prize sticker to complete your building.
Ongoing Activities and Highlights:
Living History, including camp activities, uniform and equipment demonstrations at Civil War Camp behind Jail, and Colonial / Frontier Camp at Strader Yard. Gov. and Mrs. Pierpont at BHC and around town.
19th Century Cricket. See this game popular in America in the 19th century, demonstrated by Tom Melville. Come down by the river any time during the day for demonstration and to give it a try; play in a group game at 2:30 pm
Laura Jackson Arnold House and Photography Show* – Visit the home of Stonewall Jackson’s sister, and view a special exhibit of authentic Civil War photographs. Enjoy ice cream floats while listening to traditional music on the porch periodically through the afternoon. Music* by Andy Fitzgibbon, Josh Wanstreet, and friends.
Heritage Arts including fiber arts and basket making at Goff porch, and blacksmith at Carriage House. Civil War era fashion accessories. Garden* open with interpretive tour at 12:00. Vintage laundry with wringer washer demonstrations. Goff yard
Children’s games and activities in the Town Square, all day, Interact Children’s Museum 11-2 with building activities.
1841 Jail* – Visit the restored Jail cells and Jailer’s office through the day; guided tour with upstairs and future plans at 4 pm
Collett House* frontier fort partially open with discussion of significance, and of preservation needs and challenges, with guided tour at 2.
Seneca Trail traveling exhibit is in the rotating exhibit room of the Beverly Heritage Center.* Learn about Native life and travel through our area. A program about the Seneca Trail will be offered by Eleanor Renshaw at 3:30.
Special Programs:
Fannie’s Crazy Quilt & the Logan House by Heather Biola 11am at Goff Yard Tent. Heather will share about her new book about her ancestor Fannie Logan Scott, whose daughter married future Governor Guy Kump. Heather will lead a tour to Logan House and talk about the family’s connections to Beverly.
Trio Salon will provide a program and concert of music of the Civil War era with a special emphasis on the country’s first professional composer, Stephen Foster who wrote music for the Black Face Minstrel Shows of the period. The program will reflect on the conditions of the South prior to the Civil War, and how music written from 1860-1865 captured the mood of the American people. The ensemble is made of Richard Evans on flute, John Vaughan on guitar, and Renaud Stauber on viola. 1pm in the Courthouse inside BHC. (*music)
Don Teter as a Colonial era chainman demonstrates Colonial era surveying tools and techniques at Randolph County Museum*. Demonstrations all day, Programs of George Washington’s Chainman Edward Corder at 12:30 and 3:00
