Zora Neale Hurston Presentation and Workshop
Diane Macklin will present a storytelling workshop based around the life and work of Zora Neale Hurston, noted author, folklorist, and anthropologist. Hurston’s works, which include Their Eyes Were Watching God, are cornerstones of American literature, often centering on Black American community and culture. Zora Neale Hurston worked for the WPA Federal Writer’s Project during the Great Depression, and she collected stories throughout the American South and Appalachia, later published in various works and collections, including The American Guide. “Words of Love!” Exhibit Opens at the Beverly Heritage Center
Our biggest thanks to everyone who came to the opening event for our newest window exhibit “Words of Love” on Saturday, February 15th! Even with the cold rain, we had a fantastic turnout! During the event, AmeriCorps Member Josie Shaver, lead exhibit developer, delivered a fascinating presentation on the history behind the letters on display and the people who wrote them. “All of these little lines are so powerful, and I wanted to do something to honor that. Tenth Anniversary Soiree
Celebrate 10 years since the Beverly Heritage Center ribbon cutting! At 6pm, our reception begins with hors d’oeuvres and beverages, featuring a soaring strings concert by Trio Acoustica. Wander through the Heritage Center, visiting our select silent auction and explore exhibits new and established while you view images from the restoration and construction of our buildings. Words of Love! A Window to Love Letters from the Past
Let’s keep that Valentine’s Day feeling going! Visit the Beverly Heritage Center on February 15th from 12 to 2pm for the special opening of “Words of Love! A Window to Love Letters from the Past.” Words of Love is the newest exhibit in our Women’s Window, featuring love letters, poems, dance photos and more from Beverly and all across Randolph County. Join the Beverly Heritage Center in celebrating strawberries this spring! We in West Virginia love strawberries today, but their importance in our region predate our festivals by a long while. Strawberries, and the “wild” strawberry in particular, are celebrated by the Indigenous people and communities who have lived in these mountains since time immemorial. Presented by the Rich Mountain Battlefield Foundation and the Tygart Valley Lions Club, this annual event is well-known for great food and great prizes! Logan Lot Archaeology Day — Open to the Public
Come on down to the backyard of the Logan House as we uncover history! Thanks to a state grant, the Beverly Landmarks Commission and the Rich Mountain Battlefield Foundation have hired AllStar Ecology, a natural and cultural resources management firm to conduct a Phase I excavation on the Logan House property located at 831 Main Street in Beverly, Randolph County, West Virginia.
